Here Comes the Sun
Episode m0007s3m, broadcast at Friday 23rd August 2019, 7:00pm.
“Take a walk with Federico Mompou through the sun-bleached working class areas of 20th century Barcelona, past 'the Street, the Guitarist, and the Old Horse'. Clouds might pass overhead in Josef Suk's 'Summer Impression' but fellow Czech composer Myslivecek "exudes fire, spirit and life", in the words of Mozart. The chromatic first movement of Poulenc's Flute Sonata speaks of dappled sun; light and shade coexisting. Finally, the skies clear with a hopeful refrain: 'Here comes the sun, Here comes the sun, and I say, It's all right'.”
