Schubert, Germaine Tailleferre and Vivaldi
Episode m0009s16, broadcast at Tuesday 29th October 2019, 7:00pm.
“Our journey starts with a song from Schubert’s Winterreise, then we travel to New York with a saxophone version of Steve Reich’s Counterpoint, originally for clarinet and tape. The woodwind theme continues with Fairy pipers from Elgar’s The Wand of youth. We travel to France for Germaine Tailleferre’s trio for piano, violin and cello. We return to England for a contemplative moment with Herbert Howells’ Nunc Dimittis written for Gloucester Cathedral. We end in Italy with the virtuoso violin of a Caprice by Nicolo Paganini, and the more stately bassoon concerto of Antonio Vivaldi.”
