Coronation Special
Episode m001lc4b, broadcast at Friday 5th May 2023, 7:00pm.
“From the exquisite threefold Amen by Orland Gibbons to Gordon Jacob's memorable fanfare to the National Anthem, the Classical Mixtape Coronation Special offers an uninterrupted sequence of music made popular by the crowning ceremonies of British monarchs in the 20th century. As well as the familiar ceremonial marches by Walton and Elgar, there'll be choral favourites by Handel and Purcell, and Parry's setting of Psalm 122 "I was glad when they said unto me", with the middle section reworded from "Vivat Regina" to text suitable for the coronation of a king. Join the celebration with the Classical Mixtape Coronation Special, on the eve of the crowning of King Charles III in Westminster Abbey. Producer: Helen Garrison”
