The finest classical music for Pride Month
Episode m0020351, broadcast at Wednesday 19th June 2024, 7:00pm.
“Music chosen by Nicholas Daniel, including by composers Barber, Lully, Jennifer Higdon, Britten and Angela Morley. As Nicholas says: "Hello, I'm Nicholas Daniel, oboist and conductor, proud gay man, father of two amazing humans, enjoying Pride hugely this year; loving seeing people express themselves even more freely and easily, and wondering why it can't be every month of every year we see and feel that. I'm delighted to present to you my mixtape for Pride month. It will take you through the music of Samuel Barber, Benjamin Britten with his muse Peter Pears, to the great Jennifer Higdon, and right back to Jean-Baptiste Lully, who lived from 1632 to 1687. I'm especially proud as the father of a fabulous trans woman, Allie Daniel, who's currently in Hadestown in London, to present the music of the multi-Emmy winning and Oscar-nominated composer Angela Morley, the first trans person ever to be nominated for an Academy Award. Happy Pride!"”
