30 minutes of classical inspiration
Episode m002d7nk, broadcast at Friday 20th June 2025, 7:00pm.
“Take time out with a 30-minute soundscape of classical music. This edition of the Classical Mixtape opens with the jagged and swirling strings of Schubert's final String Quartet and Saint-Saëns' symphonic poem, Danse Macabre, segueing smoothly into the delightful operatic froth of Mozart's The Magic Flute. We hear a lush modern choral classic from Bob Chilcott, Thou My Love Art Fair, before Isata Kanneh-Mason performs the first of Clara Schumann's Three Romances for piano (Op 11). The mixtape concludes with Itzhak Perlman in John William's heart-wrenching violin theme from Schindler's List, and a movement from Concerto-notturno by Mikołaj Górecki, son of the famous Henryk. Producer: Christina Kenny, BBC Audio London for BBC Radio 3”
